I always love choosing my word of the year - it’s like setting the tone for how I want to show up in life and business! By December, I’d already chosen my word for 2025: Impact! (Which probably doesn’t surprise you, right?)
But something shifted over the holidays. After David was unwell and we spent a very quiet break together, we had so many heart-to-heart conversations about what really matters!
And then, out of nowhere, a new word popped up for both of us:
Declutter!
So, here we are. Declutter has officially claimed its place as the word for 2025.
And no, it’s not just about clearing out my wardrobe (although let’s be honest, that’s happening too)! For me, decluttering goes so much deeper. It’s about making space - space for clarity, creativity, connection and growth! It’s about letting go of what no longer serves me and saying a big, bold yes to the things that light me up!
Letting go of the "stuff"
Let’s start with the obvious - the stuff! Over the years, I’ve collected things that once seemed important but now just feel like clutter! Clothes I don’t wear, papers I don’t need, memberships I don't use and digital junk piling up on my phone! Tackling these spaces feels like giving myself a fresh start - a lighter, more energised environment to work and live in!
But let’s be real, decluttering isn’t just about the physical stuff! It’s about clearing out the mental and emotional clutter too!
Clearing the mental noise!
You know that feeling when your mind is so full of to-dos, what-ifs, and should-haves that it’s hard to think straight? My mind is always filled with sooo much noise it's hard to concentrate on what's actually important!! Decluttering, for me, also means quieting that mental chaos! It’s about simplifying my commitments, focusing on what really matters, and learning to say no to the things that drain my energy! Because when we let go of the noise, we can finally hear what’s truly important!
Saying goodbye to misaligned relationships!
Here’s a big one: decluttering people! Yep, I said it! Some relationships, as much as we care about them, just don’t align with the energy we want to cultivate! For me, this means lovingly letting go of connections that feel heavy or draining and focusing on the people who inspire, uplift and align with my values!
This isn’t about judgment or drama - it’s about making space for relationships that feel joyful, empowering and supportive! Boundaries are an act of self-love, and this year, I’m embracing them wholeheartedly!
Making room for what truly matters!
Decluttering isn’t just about removing... it’s about replacing! When I clear out the old, I make room for the new! New ideas, new opportunities, and new relationships that align with my vision and values! It’s about creating a life that feels lighter, brighter and bursting with all the possibilities!
Why declutter?
Because clutter - whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional - weighs us down! It keeps us from seeing those possibilities, tapping into our creativity and fully showing up in our lives! When we declutter, we’re not just tidying up; we’re making room to breathe, dream and grow!
How you can embrace decluttering!
If the idea of decluttering resonates with you, start small! Choose one area of your life - a drawer, a daily habit, or even a relationship - and ask yourself, “Does this bring me joy? Does it align with who I want to be?” If the answer is no, it’s time to let it go!
And don’t stop at the physical! Think about the mental patterns or emotional baggage you’re ready to release! What commitments are weighing you down? Where can you say no to create space for a bigger yes?
My invitation to you!
What would happen if you created space in your life for what truly matters? What if you let go of what’s holding you back and made room for the things, people, and opportunities that light you up?
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you chosen a word of the year? Or are you ready to start your own decluttering journey? Feel free to shoot me a DM over on Instagram!!
